// Stewart has held leadership roles at the likes of Marks & Spencer, WHSmith and Thomas Cook Holdings

Burberry has appointed former Tesco chief financial officer Alan Stewart to its board as a non-executive director, effective from September 1.

It comes as Matthew Key is set to retire from his position on the board as a non-exec director after nine years with the luxury fashion retailer.

Stewart held the chief financial officer position at Tesco from 2014 to 2021 and prior to that worked in the same role at Marks & Spencer.

Earlier in his career, he was also group finance director of WHSmith and chief executive and chief financial officer of Thomas Cook Holdings.
